Romantic things to do in Myrtle Beach

Romantic Things to do in Myrtle Beach

With Valentine’s day right around the corner, you are likely starting to think of what you and your sweet thing will do for the holiday. If you happen to find yourself in Myrtle Beach for Valentine’s Day, you will find yourself with an overwhelming amount of choices for things to do! As someone who has had the pleasure of spending four Valentine’s Day here, I have had some good experiences and some bad ones!

So, I am going to let you guys in on my favorite Romantic Places in Myrtle Beach!

Brookgreen Gardens:

Open on Valentine’s Day: Yes

Reservations: N/A

Price: $$

One of my favorite places in Myrtle Beach is Brookgreen Gardens! From long walks through sculpture gardens, to dining in the small café they have, I can never seem to get enough of this beautiful place. Also, make sure that your phone is charged because you will likely want to take a ton of pictures, seriously I never leave with less than 100 photos. I can’t help but think that this place might get a little crowded should the weather be nice, however, the gardens are so large, it will feel like you are alone. You can also have picnics here, you know if it is warm enough to sit outside.

The Library:

Open on Valentine’s Day: Yes

Reservations: Yes; Recommended

Price: $$

This is also one of my favorite places in the Grand Strand! Every time I walk in I feel like I am walking back in time. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, this would be the restaurant for you! All of the servers are amazing and know the menu in and out, they can even help you pair your meal with the right drink! I am not sure if the Library will have a set menu on Valentine’s Day, but I will let you know as soon as I find out.

SeaBlue Restaurant and Wine Bar:

Open on Valentine’s Day: Yes

Reservations: Yes; Recommended

Price: $$$

SeaBlue takes fine dining to a new level in the Grand Strand. From the atmosphere to the dining staff, SeaBlue is fine dining! I have never ordered something from here that I didn’t like, and the wait staff is great at helping you decided if you are stuck! The menu is a mix of American cuisines with some French elements. My favorite thing to order here is the 14 oz. Bone-In Filet. I have never been here on Valentine’s Day, but I could see it getting busy, so if you want to make this your Valentine’s Dinner spot, I highly recommend making a reservation.

Downtown Conway:

I think that a lot of people forget about little ole Downtown Conway, but it shouldn’t be overlooked if you are looking for a romantic evening. Complete with shops, restaurants, and entertainment, you are sure to find something to do for Valentine’s Day.

My first thought for a romantic night out was to go get a bite to eat from Rivertown Bistro or Bonfire Taqueria and then head over to the Theatre of the Republic to watch a play. However, TOR is closed on Valentine’s Day, so that plan has been nixed. TOR will be open, ‘Love Letters’ on Feb. 15, so if you wanted to do a belated Valentine’s date, you certainly could.

Rivertown Bistro:

Open on Valentine’s Day: Yes

Reservations: Yes; Recommended

Price: $$

Rivertown Bistro is a sort of hidden gem in Conway. With a seafood-heavy menu, this is definitely a good place to go if you enjoy fish. My favorite thing about Rivertown, is they offer a lot of things that you cannot get anywhere else in the Grand Strand, or at least that I know of. My go-to meal here is the Duck Confit melt with Bacon – seriously out of this world!

Bonfire Taqueria :

Open on Valentine’s Day: Yes

Reservations: Yes; Recommended

Price: $$

Image result for bonfire taqueria

Conway’s and I think the Grand Strands only Gastropub is Bonfire Taqueria. If you are wondering what a gastropub is, it is a pub that also serves high-quality food. Bonfire Taqueria definitely meets those requirements! If you are looking for a more laid back and relaxed Valentine’s Day meal, this place is for you. From tacos to plates, to fish, there is sure to be something for even the pickiest of eaters. They also have 10 beers on tap, some of which are from local areas.

Brentwood Restaurant and Wine Bistro:

Open on Valentine’s Day: Yes

Reservations: Yes; Required

Phone Number: 843-249-2601

Price: $$$

Brentwood Restaurant is always a good place for a date night, but the ambiance on Valentine’s Day is something else. Brentwood does have a set menu for Valentine’s Day and it will be the only menu available. The set menu comes with an appetizer from a choice of 4, entrees from a choice of 5, and dessert for two. I am so happy to see that my favorite Entrées is on the menu for Valentine’s Day and that is there, ‘Dry Age Angus Ribeye,’ – it comes wrapped in bacon, it is love on a plate! Brentwood is sure to be a popular place on Valentine’s day, so be sure to get your reservations in now!

Aspen Grille:

Open on Valentines: Yes

Reservations: Yes; Recommended

Price:  $$

Another Fine Dining option for you to choose from. Aspen Grille brings simple dishes like shrimp and grits to the next level! Their menu is seafood-heavy, however, they do have steak and chicken dishes. The wait staff is some of the best in the Grand Strand. I have only dined here once, so I cannot offer that much insight, I would definingly dine here again. I ordered the lamb rack, and it was probably the best lamb I have ever had!

Aspen Grille also offers the widest selection of vegetarian and vegan options on this list 🙂

Malibu of Surfside:

Open on Valentine’s Day: Yes

Reservations: Yes; Required

Price: $$

I saved the best for last! I know I already have a few favorites in this list, but this one tops them all. Malibu of Surfside is a small, Italian restaurant only a few blocks from the beach. The food is prepared the same way as it would be in Italy and has never disappointed. They usually have a set menu for Valentine’s Day, however, if need something subsisted, they are usually more than happy to help you out.  I could go on and on about this place, the atmosphere is that of a small Italian family-owned restaurant, the wait staff goes above and beyond, you cannot go wrong with Malibu of Surfside. But, you will need a reservation, don’t say you weren’t warned! I know I got mine in.

8 Ways to Stay Active This Spring and Summer in Coastal SC

By now, just about everyone is ready to get out of the winter rut. The weather is warming up and it’s about time we started working on those beach bodies. If you’re like me, the problem isn’t just figuring out how to start getting more active again, but how to stay interested in being active throughout the warmer seasons.

Have fun while staying active! South Carolina offers some really cool experiences that you may have missed in the past, but this year, you don’t have to worry about missing out. Whether you’re looking for intense exercise or just some light morning or evening activity to get you started, hopefully you’ll find what you’re looking for!

There’s something for everyone!

For the light activity seekers…

1. Sculptured Oak Trail & Yaupon Trail

I lumped these two together because they are both located in Myrtle Beach State Park. Sculptured Oak Trail is .5 miles long, and Yaupon Trail is .4 miles. However, if you want to make your walk a little longer, you can do both! There is a parking area that you can walk across to get to each trail from the other. Both lead to the beach, so you can relax with a beautiful view after your walk (or run)! **Admission to Myrtle Beach State Park is $5 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-15, free for kids under 5.**

For the family…

2. McLean Park

Dogs need exercise, too! Besides, let’s face it…when your dog knows you’re going for a run without them, it’s the ultimate betrayal. McLean Park is kid AND dog friendly, offering 2 playgrounds and a .5 mile paved walking path with a fitness trail and tennis courts so you can still get a workout in! It’s fun for the whole family! You can even make a day out of it and bring a picnic and sit in the gazebo.

For those who want a variety…

3. Hunting Island State Park

Hunting Island State Park is home to 10 different trails! Odds are, even if you’ve been there before, you haven’t hiked/biked all of them. Ranging from .2 miles to 2.3 miles, you can get as much out of it as you want to! The trails are closed during the winter months, but once they are open, you can enjoy the forests and marshes that coastal South Carolina has to offer. You can also visit the lighthouse, marsh, or docks to get a fantastic sunset view. **Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for kids 6-15, and free for kids under 5. Lighthouse admission is $2 per person.**

For the water enthusiasts…

4. Kayak, Paddleboard, and Crabbing Rentals

When you’re near the salt marsh creeks in Pawley’s Island or Litchfield Beach, how are you not tempted to go kayaking?! Kayaking has to be one of my favorite spring/summer pastimes… and Pawley’s Kayaks offers a one stop shop for your water sport materials. They have rentals available for crabbing, canoeing, kayaking, surfing, and paddleboarding…even cornhole to complete your day on the beach! Check out their website for more info on the prices and rental packages. http://www.pawleyskayaks.com/

For the bikers…

5. Bike the Neck

The Waccamaw Neck Bikeway spans 12 (paved) miles total and runs parallel to US 17, starting at Murrell’s Inlet and ending in Pawley’s Island. The ride takes you through a slew of pines, oaks, and wetlands. Looking for a shorter ride? There is a spot around the 3 mile mark where you can loop around and complete a 6 mile total ride around the western border of the park.

For the long distance runners…

6. Cooper River Bridge Race

The Cooper River Bridge Race is an annual 10k that is open to anyone! Whether you want to run, jog, walk, or if you’re in a wheelchair, they have opportunities for you to participate.  This year’s

race is held on April 7th of 2018, starts at 8 a.m. and spans from Mt. Pleasant to downtown Charleston.  To participate costs as low as $35 is you get the tickets early, but can go as high as $55 when the date gets closer, so it’s definitely better to get the tickets sooner rather than later. You can still register today by clicking the link!

For those looking for a cause to make your workout worth it…

7. Run for the Children 5k

Run for the Children is held in Murrell’s Inlet on April 14th, 2018 and starts at 8:30 a.m.  at the Garden City Chapel.  It is open to all age groups and abilities, hosting 10 different age groups from under 10 years old to 80 years and older!  If you’re the type of person who needs a reason to work out, this is the work out you’re looking for.  The Run for the Children 5k benefits the Children’s Home Ministry and the funds raised contribute to hosting children’s homes at the GCC retreat and treating the children to local activities. Registration is anywhere from $20-$30 depending on when you decide to sign up.  Register today by clicking the link!  https://localraces.com/events/murrells-inlet-sc/run-for-the-children-5k

Finally, For those looking to de-stress and strengthen…

8. Folly Beach Yoga

Are you the type of person who likes (or needs) to strengthen and relax at the same time? If you love the beach, you’ll love beach yoga.  Folly Beach Island Yoga offers classes, group, and private yoga sessions all in the refreshing company of the morning sun and the soothing waves.  Passes are $12 for an hour long session.  Some friendly suggestions..be sure to remember sunscreen and LOTS of water.  It gets pretty hot out there!
